Homonym may be used to refer to either homophones or to homographs. Sometimes these words sound different (as in the bow of a ship, and the bow that shoots arrows), and sometimes these words sound the same (as in quail meaning ‘to cower’ and quail meaning a type of bird). Homographs are words that are spelled alike but are different in meaning or derivation or pronunciation. These words may be spelled differently from each other (such as to, too, and two), or they may be spelled the same way (as in quail meaning ‘to cower’ and quail meaning a type of bird). Baskerville's typefaces remain very popular in book design and there are many modern revivals, which often add features such as bold type which did not exist in Baskerville's time. These changes created a greater consistency in size and form, influenced by the calligraphy Baskerville had learned and taught as a young man. The curved strokes are more circular in shape, and the characters became more regular. It is important historically because it represented a deliberate move away from the Old Style faces of the preceding centuries, and foretold the Moderns that were to follow. ▼Ĭompared to earlier designs popular in Britain, Baskerville increased the contrast between thick and thin strokes, making the serifs sharper and more tapered, and shifted the axis of rounded letters to a more vertical position. While it's a smaller tax software provider than the titan Intuit, it has been around for more than 50 years and has plenty of experience handling tax returns. TaxSlayer is cheaper than most others for the same thing. The tax code is identical regardless of what software or accountant you use, so you should get a result that's within a few dollars (it could vary a little due to rounding) no matter where you do your taxes. They all said the experience was practically flawless. Several well-reasoned people explained that they recently switched to TaxSlayer to save money compared to higher-priced competitors. The first place I saw serious recommendations of TaxSlayer was on a personal-finance forum on Reddit. Outside of regular do-it-yourself tax prep, TurboTax added a feature called TurboTax Live. Intuit also owns Mint and QuickBooks, among other offerings. TurboTax is made by Intuit, a giant in financial software. Overall, however, I would still recommend it to family or friends without hesitation. I have had some less-than-stellar experiences with the low-level customer service and some less-common parts of preparing my tax return as a small business owner with an S-Corp. Saving time when importing and uploading forms. But, if cost is your top concern, TaxSlayer is the winner. I found the TurboTax experience superior enough that I would be willing to pay more for it than TaxSlayer. I was surprised to find that TurboTax did save me quite a bit of time compared to TaxSlayer due to document upload capabilities and its connections to banks and investment companies. For those who don't mind doing a little more manual entry to save money on their tax return, TaxSlayer does the job just fine.īefore trying both platforms, I expected a fairly similar user experience. If your focus is on doing your taxes as quickly and efficiently as possible with the smoothest user experience, TurboTax is definitely a better choice. This ran for two seasons, the second of which featured a studio audience with whom Max interacted. This led to a series on the UK Channel 4 network with the Max Headroom character as a video jockey and interviewer. He went on to train at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating from its three-year acting course in 1980.įrewer portrayed the artificial intelligence character Max Headroom in the 1980s, starring in the 1985 eponymous science fiction television film Frewer also played award-winning Network 23 journalist Edison Carter in the film. It was set, obviously, in the near future, when a television journalist named Edison Carter (Frewer) challenges the network he works for. (At least that's how it appeared to me.) He was quippy, with biting humor from what I recall, but I don't remember the show other than the fact that he was in it. He would "glitch" and sort of stutter words as his program lost and gained signals. He had slicked back "hair," and often wore black sunglasses. Max was a character that looks like he was created by a computer, and we only saw his head against a very '80s geometric background. I remember him saying in his trademark broken speech, "C-c-c-caatch the wave." I only have the vaguest memories of Max Headroom as a character, and to be honest, it's mostly from the New Coke commercials he was in. 9/27/2023 0 Comments Writer duet google chrome crashPerformance is entry-level and good enough for the basics ![]() However, when folding the keyboard 360-degrees to the back of the device, keyboard input is disabled for the true tablet mode. I found that out when watching a movie with the Duet on my lap. ![]() Note that you can fold the detachable keyboard underneath the tablet and kickstand but I don’t recommend it for consuming content in kickstand mode because unlike the Pixel Slate Keyboard, the keys remain active in this configuration. The kickstand can fold back from around 95 to about 135 degrees Just using the tablet and kickstand cover for content consumption is an ideal use case for me personally. The rear kickstand is super useful to me obviously when using the keyboard since you need the screen propped up to use it, but also without the keyboard. On looks and design alone, I think people not familiar with the Lenovo Duet Chromebook would be shocked at the price once they got this in their hands. And I include not just the device itself here, but also the detachable keyboard and fabric back cover with kickstand. This device isn’t flimsy or plastic-y at all either, which impresses me. The only way to watch higher definition content on the Lenovo Duet Chromebook is the same method for all others at this time: In the Chrome browser, which means watching HD movies online only. Example, Netflix Android app CANNOT do 1080p on ANY Chromebook.Īnswer: The Netflix Android app shows Standard Definition (SD) as the maximum playback resolution. Reader question from Mike: “PLEASE address HD 1080p streaming and downloading through Android apps. I even used the small slate for some Google Stadia gaming and everything looked detailed and fluid, although the graphics are really rendered in the cloud. I watch most of my television and movie content on Chromebooks and I enjoyed doing the same on the Lenovo Duet Chromebook. Regardless, I like the screen’s output for work and for entertainment. It’s not a problem and there are nine different resolution settings to choose from, but I find it odd. It’s only when you move the resolution setting to 1080 x 675 when you see the word “Default” for the screen res. But the Chrome OS Settings app doesn’t say that. One other interesting aspect about that 400-nit bright display with native 1920 x 1200 resolution: The default resolution is 1440 x 900. I simply enabled the Night Light setting to be always-on and adjusted the screen temperature to be a smidgen warmer. I still find the display a little too cool for my tastes but that’s easy to mitigate if you feel the same. Those keys are a bigger challenge to me than the small trackpad, which again is limited by available space for a tablet of this size. But I get frustrated with the smaller punctuation keys it has definitely slowed down my typing speeds and/or has led to more inadvertent typing errors. Lenovo has done as good a job here as I think anyone could. That’s to be expected when designing a keyboard that can’t be wider than the display in landscape mode. The overall typing experience is good but the keys are small and about one dozen of the keys are about half the size as a full-sized keyboard would have. I still think the build quality, materials, design, durability, and display are all better than you’d expect at this price.Īnd although I can get used to practically any keyboard, I still struggle at times with the included detachable one even though I don’t mind that it isn’t backlit. Not much has changed from my i nitial hands-on and first impressions of the Lenovo Duet Chromebook. ![]() Overall quality, display, design and input I’ll share my thoughts on that aspect after covering the basics and answering a few previously asked reader questions along the way. However, I also think that the question of “Should you buy it?” depends on if you plan to use it as a primary or a secondary device. Overall, I think it’s a great value for the price. Additionally, I knew Chrome OS 83 was due for release soon so I wanted to complete my testing with that version, which arrived last week. The main reason is that I realized something about the latest Chrome OS tablet: There will be different potential buyers of this small slate. I’ve been using the $299 configuration of the Lenovo Duet Chromebook for several weeks now, which is longer than I typically take to review Chromebooks. 9/27/2023 0 Comments Make up definitionBut, of course, it all depends on your skin type and texture, which means you may end up trying a few before you fall in love.įor me, I swear by Monistat Chafing Gel, a cheap, $5, Reddit-loved primer dupe that I’ve used and loved since high school. I think as long as it’s a simple, silicone-based primer, you can’t really go wrong. And to that, I say experiment! Play around! But you’ll also know my answer to the following question: What is the best makeup primer? Some people hate the feeling of silicones or swear silicones break them out and just prefer the finish they get with a water-based primer. That’s not to say silicone-based primers are the end all be all (although, for my face, they absolutely are). I, as future queen, will force nobody to wear a water-based primer. I don’t think they do anything special for your makeup, especially if you’re already wearing a moisturizer, and they offer none of the same skin-smoothing properties as a silicone primer. Here’s a hot take: I, personally, am not a fan of water-based primers. It’s not an exact science, but if -cones or -siloxanes aren’t present, you’ve probably got a water-based primer.Īnd water-based primers are essentially lightweight moisturizers that make your skin feel, uh, slightly moisturized (maybe slightly dewier? Slightly matter? Slightly something-er?). You’ll know you’ve got a silicone primer if one of the first five ingredients ends in -cone or -siloxane (like dimethi cone, polysili cone, tri siloxane, cyclopenta siloxane, etc.). Silicones also form a protective little shield over your skin, trapping in moisture to keep skin hydrated and protected. Silicone primers give your face a super smooth, silky, soft feeling, which allows your makeup to glide over your skin without sinking into pores and creases. Yes, this is incredibly important, so stay with me. And that, my friends, is where dreams are made and broken. But, really, all makeup primers boil down to two important, distinct categories: silicone-based or water-based formulas. You’ve got your lip primers (to help keep your lipstick smooth and long-lasting), your eyelash primers (to prevent clumps and lengthen lashes), your eyeshadow primers (to prevent creasing, fading, and smudging), and your face primers, which I’ll be focusing on today (and, to be honest, I tend to slather my makeup primer all over my lips and lids, and I personally think it’s excellent as an all-in-one primer).įace primers are also not created equal-you can get hydrating primers for dry skin, mattifying primers for oily skin, color-correcting primers for redness, and approximately 20 other types, finishes, and consistencies. Here’s the thing about makeup primers: They’re available in a ton of different forms, just in case you feel like priming your whole face (not necessary, IMO). LAUNCHMETRICS SPOTLIGHT What makeup primer should you choose? And also, if words aren’t enough for you, maybe these photos I took of my beautiful, pale-as-f*ck arm will be able to show you just how powerful primer is: ![]() by the end of the day, you would most likely benefit from trying a makeup primer. But if you’re someone who ends up with raccoon eyes, smudged eyeliner, crease-y, slide-y, patch-y foundation/eyeshadow/concealer/etc. You can use (or not use) whatever the heck you want that makes you and your face happy. When it comes to makeup, you don’t need anything. And because your makeup isn’t competing with roughness and oil slicks, it adheres to your face for hours longer than it usually would, even in super-humid, sweaty temps. Makeup primer basically blurs, hides, and evens out your skin texture (not fully-it ain’t sorcery-but still to a noticeable degree). Think of it like a layer of fondant smoothed over a jagged cake or a top coat glazed over your smudged manicure. ![]() Play icon The triangle icon that indicates to play |
