9/28/2023 0 Comments 2017 alta redshift mx![]() On the track, that '13 felt a LOT heavier than the YZ450F and it showed in this simple scale test. The heaviest bike I've checked was my buddy's 2013 KX450F with A-Kit spring forks. ![]() I had a '14 YZ450F for a little while and although it was 25 pounds heavier than my two smoke YZ250, it had only a little more weight on the handlebar when you leaned it onto that scale. The height of the handlebar from the ground (at ride height) and a bunch of other factors have a part to play, but I've seen a direct correlation to the weight you feel when you ride.įor example, my YZ125 was the lightest leaned over weight I've tested and was substantially lighter than anything else. It's interesting to see where the weight is at (high or low). I've done this with a few different bikes. Would you be willing to do a quick test with a bathroom scale?ġ) Put the scale on a motorcycle stand, milk crate or bucket.Ģ) Measure the height from the floor to the scale.ģ) Lean the bike over so that the end of the handlebar is pushing down on the scale. ![]() I spent a little time at Hangtown talking to the girl promoting Alta in the vendor area. Winning a 4th place plaque in +50 on the Alta in my first MX race on it? Priceless. I went 4-4 for 4th overall, out of 15 riders. I almost had the holeshot in my 2nd +50 moto, but I had to back off because of another rider, and ended up in 2nd after a couple corners. It soaked up the braking and acceleration bumps well, and I did all of the bigger jumps I would do on any other bike. ![]() In my mind, here are what the map settings are equivalent to: In my first moto on the Alta, I didn't switch to map setting 3 right away, and the power caught me off guard, and I almost looped it over a jump! A couple corners in I use the down-arrow switch on the left hand side to switch to map setting 3, my preferred map setting to navigate the track. On the Alta, I put the map setting on 4, and then I just twist the throttle and it will go from 0 mph to what seems like 80 mph going into the first corner. On the YZ450F, I start in 2nd, and then shift to 3rd as soon as possible, and I usually get a good start. The Alta is just as fast, if not faster, on the starts compared to the YZ450F. for a slightly overweight 51 year old who sits down too much. The Alta lets me choose, and then I feel like I get through the corner pretty fast. The YZ450F, not known for its turning prowess, kinda goes where it wants to go. As I mentioned before, it is smoother and I make less mistakes in the corners, and you feel totally hooked up. I did 2 motos on the YZ450F and practice and 3 motos on the Alta Redshift. This track is fast, has a lot of hills, and it got rough! I did 5 of my 6 motos, skipping my last +40 moto, as I was beat, and it was the last one of the day. Gentlemen (and ladies), the Alta is legit! I loved it in a race setting, and for me it worked better than the YZ450F. I was a bundle of nervous energy, wound tight, on a new bike wondering how it would perform. It had been a couple months since I had done a mx race, and man, is it so much more intense than just pounding out laps on a practice track. I brought the 2017 Alta Redshift MX and the 2016 Yamaha YZ450F, so I could do a race-day comparison of the two. It was a beautiful day, but a little on the hot side, mid 80's. So Sunday was race day at Pavilion MX Park in upstate NY for me.
